On July 26, 2025 Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi convened the Convention of National Cooperation to Save Iran in Munich, Germany. The event brought together about 500 Iranian opposition activists, artists, athletes, and defected officials.

Core Principles & Goals

Speakers also affirmed that it is the right of Iranians to determine the future form of their democracy and participants committed to four foundational principles:

  1. Safeguarding Iran’s territorial integrity

  2. Upholding individual freedoms and equality for all citizens

  3. Ensuring the separation of religion and state

  4. Selection of the type of government and election of its leaders by way of a national referendum

Messaging & Unity

  • The Crown Prince described the gathering as the largest and most diverse coalition of Iranian dissidents ever assembled outside Iran, united for democratic transition

  • He declared that Iran’s regime is collapsing, sending a message to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei

  • The convention marks a strategic attempt to unify otherwise fragmented opposition factions under a shared democratic roadmap.

  • It strengthens Prince Reza Pahlavi’s role as a transitional figure, though he emphasized that ultimate decisions—such as whether Iran should become a republic or reinstated constitutional monarchy—belong to the Iranian people

  • By highlighting growing support both inside Iran and among the diaspora, Prince Reza Pahlavi's movement seeks to increase international pressure on the Iranian regime and prepare for a post-Islamic Republic transition

Attendee Profile

Over 500 participants attended, described by organizers as “the broadest and most diverse gathering of Iranian dissidents ever assembled outside Iran”. The attendees included activists, artists, athletes, defected officials, and representatives of opposition political factions both inside and outside Iran

1. Former Government Officials & Defectors

Prince Reza Pahlavi’s platform has registered more than 50,000 defectors from Iran's military, paramilitary, and security apparatus—though not all attended in person—and some were represented at the conference. These included former members of institutions like the Revolutionary Guards, Basij, and the Ministry of Intelligence

2. Organized Opposition Parties & Political Factions

According to the Munich Convergence Summit in February 2025 (a precursor to the July convention), key liberal and nationalist groups had already aligned under Prince Reza Pahlavi’s leadership:

  • Republican Society Supporting Prince Reza Pahlavi

  • Constitutional Party of Iran / Liberal Democrat

  • Hope Institute

  • Pan‑Iranist Party

  • People's Organization

  • Rastakhair Iranistayan

  • Haft Aban

  • Patriotic Kurdish Iranians

  • Iran Novin

  • Constitutional Organization
These same or affiliated groups were present or represented in the July convention, reinforcing Prince Reza Pahlavi’s role as a transitional leader until elections could be held

3. Grassroots & Youth Movements

  • Youth-led groups such as the Neighbourhood Youth Alliance of Iran (also known as United Youth of Iran)—an alliance of about 30 grassroots protest groups active since the 2022 Mahsa Amini movement—played an active role in mobilizing domestic support and were linked to the convention’s messaging, though direct attendance by members may have been symbolic or remote due to security conditions in Iran

4. Cultural Figures & Diaspora Voices

  • Writers, artists, intellectual voices, sports personalities, and former political dissidents within the Iranian diaspora also took part, lending cultural visibility and amplifying the narrative of democratic unity.

Why These Groups Matter

  • The convergence of ideologically diverse political organizations underscores the intent to unify factions—even beyond traditional secular, liberal, and nationalist lines—for a secular democratic transition

  • The inclusion of security apparatus defectors is especially strategic: signaling internal cracks within the regime and demonstrating possible internal momentum within state institutions

  • Youth groups and diaspora leaders served to connect domestic protest networks with international advocacy, bridging the gap between in-country activism and external solidarity
